Last year, I had a cyst removed from my upper back. Eeew! Actually, it was more in the shoulder/neck area, about an inch away from the spine. Fortunately, the doctor was able to remove it in the office and stitch me right there. It was a minor, routine procedure which lasted about twenty minutes. The incision healed just fine, and since I was told that cutting the growth out meant that it was unlikely to return, I figured that was the end of it. Well, guess what? Yep, right there in the same spot, directly underneath the scar from the first one. It's baaaaack! I've read that cysts can have a network of roots, and if you don't get the whole thing out, contrary to what this particular doctor told me, they will often return. Evidently, she didn't get all of it. At least that's what I'm hoping. If not, something else a little scarier is going on. The biopsy result on the first one was benign, as they usually are with cysts. Then again, who knows? She could have been wrong about that too!At some point, I suppose I'll have to get this looked at again. But I don't think I want to go back to the same doctor for all of the obvious reasons. I mentioned this to my father the last time we spoke, and he laughed at me. This came as no surprise since he's insane. He said, "I had one of them things in my shoulder for forty-three years and never went to see a doctor about it."
Had?
Yeah, "had."
One day, on a whim he decided to take a knife and a mirror and remove it himself. Eeew, again! I don't think I'll try that method, although the last time I saw him gangrene hadn't set in yet. So, maybe I'm just worried about nothing after all.

I've got a mole that, after 37 years, has to go. it's a bit more irregularly shaped, so...
thing is, it's someplace where no one but my doctor and massage therapist have seen it (in several years) so how do I KNOW if it's changing?
don't tell your dad, please.
i'm scared of the doctor.
EWWWWWWW is right. But listen here Outlaw...get your butt back to a new dr. and have it looked at! Don't play macho man, just go!! If you don't you'll worry and so will I !!
Sounds like your Dad has a Rambo comples, or then again maybe it's just the "god ol' boy" thang because it sure sounds like something my Dad would have done.
It can't hurt to get a second Dr. to take a look see, but don't wait too long, I've gotten used to having you around and I'd miss ya if you went, er, missing
*complex*
Sorry, my mind's fuzzy at 4:30 in the AM
please go see a new doctor and soon!
I'd hate to hear the growth wrapped itself around your spine or something awful. Start talking it up- see if anyone knows a good doctor.
Outlaw, whatever you do, PLEASE don't do what your dad did (I think you made it pretty clear that you wouldn't anyway, but just wanted to reinforce that). And I think getting it checked out is a good idea, though, like you said it is almost certainly benign. (Incidentally I'm better at giving advice than at following it:S)
Rebekah - Not to scare you or anything, but it's the odd shaped ones that doctors take an interest in. You go first, let me know how it goes, then I'll go :)
SJ - Me too!
Barbara - I'm sure that I will, it's just a matter of building up some courage.
JB - He's out of his mind, LOL! And yeah, he's a country boy too.
Pamela - I sure hope they don't have roots that deep!
Ini - No need to worry. There will be no self filleting here, LOL! I've read that sometimes you can disperse them by using a heating pad twice a day. I may try that first.
is it a cyst or a ganglian?..I had two of them removed..one from my right wrist and one on my spine...have one now in the fatty part of my muscle on my left arm..but won't mess with having it removed as it is just like a pocket of fat...and I have way bigger pockets of fat to worry about..like my ass....
JS - I'm pretty sure she said it was a sebaceous cyst, although I can't recall 100%. I know that ganglions are on the wrist. This one is on the upper shoulder/lower neck area. They're usually nothing to be concerned about, but they're ugly. Fortunately they're not as big as the fat deposits on certain asses, LOL!
Don't you wish we all did'nt have to grow older?
I mean things that were never happening in my body, suddenly thinks it's party time!
Take 'er cool and I hope nothing serious is underlying. Be gone, cyst roots!
Sunny - Like the saying goes, "don't get old, you won't like it." LOL! Although I'm not sure that this one has anything to do with aging. It's annoying nonetheless.
